The role in a nutshell:
Tech One Global Lanka Pvt Ltd. is seeking a Solutions Architect – Cloud Migration & Modernization to drive the senior technical pre-sales function within our Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure practice. This is a deeply technical role requiring proven hands-on experience across the full On-premises, Azure migration and modernization stack from on-premises Windows Server, Active Directory, SQL Server, IIS, and file server environments through to Azure IaaS, hybrid infrastructure, SQL modernization, application modernization, and Azure Landing Zone design. You will own the technical pre-sales cycle for complex infrastructure implementation and migration opportunities, design structured adoption roadmaps grounded in CAF and WAF principles, and drive competitive wins and new customer acquisitions. Beyond individual engagements, you will shape Infrastructure practice positioning, develop reusable migration IP, and mentor architects and engineers on solution design standards and delivery methodology.
What you will do in this role:
- Trusted Advisor & Senior Customer Engagement: Drive strategic cloud migration and modernization conversations with IT Directors, Infrastructure Leads, CTOs, and business decision makers. Conduct in-depth environment assessments across on-premises Windows Server, Active Directory, SQL Server, IIS, file server, and virtualization platforms, translating legacy infrastructure complexity into structured, risk-aware Azure migration roadmaps aligned to business goals, operational constraints, and cost targets.
- End-to-End Pre-Sales Ownership: Own the full technical pre-sales lifecycle for infrastructure implementation, migration and modernization opportunities from qualification and discovery through to environment assessments, Azure readiness reports, architecture design, PoC delivery, phased migration roadmaps, scope statements, effort estimation, licensing advisory, and commercial proposal. Handle technical objections, competitive scenarios, and multi-stakeholder engagements independently without requiring escalation.
- Azure Landing Zone & Foundation Architecture: Design and position Azure Landing Zone architectures using CAF principles covering management group hierarchy, subscription design, policy assignment, networking topology (hub-and-spoke or Virtual WAN), identity integration, and governance baseline. Apply WAF pillars, and performance efficiency as the design standard across all migration and modernization engagements. Ensure every customer migration is built on a production-ready, well-governed Azure foundation from day one.
- Infrastructure Implementation, Migration & Hybrid Architecture: Design end-to-end On-premises and Azure IaaS migration solutions covering VM migration using Azure Migrate, network topology and NSG design, storage architecture, availability set and zone configuration, and landing zone deployment. Architect hybrid infrastructure solutions spanning Azure Arc for hybrid server and Kubernetes management, Azure Site Recovery for BCDR, VPN Gateway and ExpressRoute design for hybrid connectivity, and hybrid identity integration between on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID. Advise customers on phased migration sequencing, dependency mapping, and wave planning to minimize business disruption across complex environments.
- On-Premises Platform Expertise & Modernization Advisory: Apply deep knowledge of on-premises Windows Server environments, including Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, IIS, SQL Server, and file server infrastructure to accurately assess implementation and migration complexity, identify compatibility risks, and design appropriate modernization paths to Azure or native on-premises implementations. Advise on Windows Server and SQL Server end-of-support scenarios, Azure Hybrid Benefit entitlements, and Extended Security Updates (ESU) as part of migration business case construction.
- SQL Server & Data Platform Modernization: Design SQL Server modernization solutions covering migration to Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs. Lead database compatibility assessments using DMA and DMS, design hybrid SQL configurations, advise on performance baselining and post-migration optimization, and position the appropriate Azure SQL target based on customer workload characteristics, licensing position, and operational maturity.
- Application Modernization: Design application modernization solutions across Azure VMware Solution (AVS) for VMware estate migration, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) for containerization of legacy workloads, Azure App Service for web application re-platforming, and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) for desktop modernization. Apply the appropriate modernization pattern on rehost, re-platform, or refactoring based on customer application portfolio assessment, risk tolerance, and transformation timeline.
- Baseline Security & Compliance Positioning: Incorporate baseline Azure security posture into every migration and modernization design covering Microsoft Defender for Cloud (MDC) enablement, Azure Policy and regulatory compliance initiatives, role-based access control (RBAC) design, Key Vault for secrets management, Azure Monitor and Log Analytics for operational visibility, and network security baseline (NSG, Azure Firewall, DDoS). Position security not as an afterthought but as a foundational component of every Azure Landing Zone and migration design, and engage the Security practice for deeper security requirements where warranted.
- FinOps & Cost Optimization: Advise customers on Azure consumption cost management, including Reserved Instance and Savings Plan strategy, Azure Hybrid Benefit for Windows Server and SQL Server, right-sizing recommendations from Azure Migrate assessments, and storage tiering. Incorporate FinOps principles into migration planning to ensure customers land in Azure with cost-optimized, well-governed environments rather than discovering runaway spend post-migration.
- Practice Leadership & IP Development Drive the development of Infrastructure pre-sales capability, including migration assessment frameworks, Azure Landing Zone blueprints, competitive tools, scoping templates, and delivery playbooks. Mentor junior architects and infrastructure engineers on Azure solution design, migration methodology, and customer engagement standards. Serve as the internal escalation point for complex infrastructure architecture decisions across pre-sales and delivery.
- Partner & Ecosystem Engagement: Collaborate with Microsoft field teams, Azure migration specialists, and program stakeholders across FastTrack for Azure, Jumpstart, co-sell, and PSA motions. Work internally with sales and delivery teams to identify migration and modernization opportunities across the existing customer base, and ensure a clean, well-documented post-sale transition to delivery.
